Aimed at a child aged approximately 4 or 5, this teaching sequence comes near the beginning of an Arithmetic topic on basic numbers and counting. It is followed by counting to larger numbers. This is just one sample session from many covering this particular area of learning.

Subtraction using Columns
Aimed at a child of 6 years and upwards, this teaching sequence comes in an Arithmetic topic about using columns for subtraction. It introduces the concept of exchanging, using blocks to model the tens and units columns. Later in the topic, as their experience increases, children work increasingly with numbers alone.

Fractions
Aimed at a child of about 9 years and upwards, this teaching sequence comes part way through an Arithmetic topic about fractions. Children will already have worked intensively on halves and quarters. Later in the topic, they work further on converting fractions to their equivalents and then adding fractions together.

Long Multiplication
Aimed at a child of about 10 years and upwards, this teaching sequence comes part way through an Arithmetic topic about long multiplication. Children will already have learned about using columns for multiplication and will have multiplied 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers with and without carrying. Later in the topic, they build up to multiplying 3-digit numbers by 3-digit numbers with lots of carrying and consider grid multiplication as an alternative method.

Long Division
Aimed at a child of about 10 years and upwards, this teaching sequence comes part way through an Arithmetic topic about long division. Children will already have learned about other methods of division including chunking and methods of checking answers. They will also have carried out long division with and without remainders and long division of 2-digit numbers by single-digit numbers to 2 decimal places. Later in the topic, they cover division to more decimal places and build up to dividing 5-digit numbers by 3-digit numbers.

9 Times Tables
This teaching sequence comes about halfway through the Times Tables package, following work on the 3x and 6x table, to help children identify patterns between these and the 9x table. They will already have had some lessons on the 9x table by this stage.
